Mines doing the same, I'm just going to buy this *OEM* Audi VW Cluster A3 A4 A6 S3 S4 RS4 RS6 Instrument Repair LCD Pixel Damage | eBay and get them to sort it, its only £30 more than the cost of the lcd screen so not worth the hassle messing about with it.
bba reman do this http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/
or if you have time, tools and paitience have a go changing it youself!!

The display itself is fine. The strip connector has slightly shrunk with age. Mine too has the same problem and time allowing I'll fix the original unit.
If theres no way of taking it apart without damaging the display it'll be replaced. It's great in cold damp weather and who wants thoseconditions set up on climatecontrol.
Any feedback on your experience with the LCD repair service via eBay link? I'm looking at similar problem and would go for getting someone else to do it if outcome was positive!
Actually got my dash sent off on Saturday as Allsorts were doing a special on the oem repair for £85, Just got a message back this morning saying it had already been received and repaired with a pic attached, my display was absolutely fubarred 90% of it was unreadable, its going to be back with me by 1pm tomorrow.
heres the result
