On my way to work stoped put 15 quids worth of fuel in ,drove away goy 2 miles an d realised i had just put petrol in :zx11: and not diesel.
pulled in ot garage and totaly filled tank with diesel this time hoping to dilute the mixture ,WAS THIS THE WRITE THING TO DO
Done approx 400 miles and have put another 25 litres of fuel in seems to be runing fine no problems but should i expect some????????????:mad:

Re: 2001 a4 1.9 tdi
christ aren't you lucky! i heard it can do untold damage to a diesel.perhaps your filter got rid of it somehow.

Re: 2001 a4 1.9 tdi
It should be fine its worse if you put diesel in a petrol. You done the right thing by putting more diesel in. Just keep topping it up with diesel, if everything seems ok then it will be.

Re: 2001 a4 1.9 tdi
Could be worth changing the fuel filter too.

Re: 2001 a4 1.9 tdi
I managed to do the same thing on a citroen diesel 4/5 years ago
(well how was i to know that in Sunderland a black pump = unleaded)
I only put in about a gallon maybe a bit less and then diluted it.
I discussed at the time what the likely outcomes were for the motor with a lecturer in mechanical engineering (my dad)
Turns out if the fuel has all run through the system and the motor is all ok what in essence you have done is given your car the "daddy" of all redex treatments.
What can happen however depending on the exact motor is that the car recognises that someone has been slipping gin in its coco and adjusts the settings to allow for the new fuel. The ECU may have adjusted itself a bit but should settle when its had another tankful or so.
A lot of the guys that run there diesels on veg oil actually thin it a little with unleaded just to aid the viscosity
