4.2 V8 Running temperature.............................
Simple one really, running temp on the V8 should be ??
Car runs at around 70-75 when on motorway, barely moves unless i hit a hill, which increases to say 80.
Soon as we stop in traffic it'll creep up and possibly get to 90 or just above.
IS that normal or chould it maintain 80-90 while cruising at motorway speeds? Need to check as oil temperature barely goes above 60-70 no matter what, and concerned that the oil may not be getting hot enough to lubricate correctly.
thanks
Stuart

Faulty thermostat I'm afraid and that is a front off into the service position and all Aux and timing belt off. Is the car due a timing belt change. Also provide your engine code it is on the ID label in the spare wheel bay, like BBD. Regards Peter

cheers, i had a feeling it was thermostat, but before i got ripping it all out, i will check the temperature ON the car rather than just rely on dash gauge. I was hoping it was normal with an outside temp of 14 degrees that the air movement was keeping the car that little bit cooler, as temp is up to 80-90 within 30-60 secs of stopping.
Engine code reads ARS.
I am saving for timing belt anyway, think the kit is around £400 in parts alone, so a thermostat on top is hardly set to break the bank lol, pity as belt only done 45k ago.
