Engine problems with 2007 Jetta

Hi All
My Dad was driving home yesterday and noticed a fine mist/steam coming from under the bonnet.
On closer inspection today, the bonnet soundproofing is soaked in diesel and most of the engine on the passenger side is also. It has pooled on the gearbox. Not sure what I should be looking for.
Help !

PS The car is a 2007 Jetta 1.9tdi with the PD engine.
