A3 Concert Headunit - MP3?
Hi guys,
I have a A3 8P 05 which has a concert cd player (Bose) but want to add the ability to play MP3 files without installing an aftermarket headunit. Found this but was just wondering if anyone know if they work and if anyone has one?

If not what other options are out there without spending too much? if anyone has an MP3 playing OEM-style unit?
thank you :o
Re: A3 Concert Headunit - MP3?
Hi,
I tried 2 connects2 units and sent both back as I wasn't happy with the USB/SD card quality. In the end, I paid more for a Dension Gateway lite and it is easier to install as the leads are separate to the unit (leads purchased separately) . There are various Dension units available if you have DIS etc. so it is worth researching.
I've written some more info in this thread: Aux in for A3 already equipped with Symphony 6CD head unit
and this thread is also very helpful:
Question glovebox removal as it also links to the "how to" article.
The alternative would be Bluetooth music streaming, but I have no experience of this.

If you're feeling brave, why not do the double din conversion and fit a nice shiny rns-e?
SD card readers built in and you have the added bonus of satnav too.

Thanks for the info mate. What leads would I need with the Dension one? Will have to email them regarding the DIS see what works best with that.

Too much hassle for me mate, just looking to keep the OEM look and just add MP3 without too much expense.

Dension addon isnt email look though mate, the rns-e isnt a hassle if you pay someone else to install it lol, it is as oem as you can get aswell, which will allow mp3 on the sd cards with added benefit of decent nav with dis & mfsw controls if fitted.

TBH with single din, the conversion & rns-e install wont be cheap.

As I say, I fitted the Dension Gateway lite, so I bought a USB extension cable (to allow me to play from usb pen drive) and also an iPod dock cable kit so that I can charge my iPhone at the same time (it charges at about the same speed as from a USB port). Of course, you don't have to have an iPod cable if you don't want to.
The harness is normal length (ie. reasonably short) so you need to place the small box somewhere (I placed it below the radio headunit, behind the climate controls, as I also have hands free cables to contend with) - I wrapped the box in a section of holey anti-slip mat I got from the pound shop to stop it from vibrating. You would then run the iPod or USB cable to where you want it (I have the cables in the glovebox).
The only issue that I have had with it is that I have caused the device to freeze by the sequence in which I have plugged/unplugged my iPhone and USB pen drive (as it uses the last plugged in device as the item to play from) - now that I know the cause I am careful. The list of their items is in the table here: iPod Adapters, USB Adapter iPod, iPod Car Adapters, iPod Car Kits, iPhone Car, FM Transmitter - Dension and it also has a * to refer you to the bottom of the table for those that require an iPod cable.
