Touran Highline Sport DSG Auto 2.0 TDI. 2006. only 19,204 miles from new.Electrical Faults.
Hi,after washing my car i used hose to remove salt etc. from underneath including wheel arches,i also hosed in engine bay to get rid of leaves which were blocking drainholes. Then with 12 volt tyre inflator i started to inflate the tyres(3 needed 0.2bars,and 1 tyre only 0.1bar),after infating 3 tyres the compressor stopped on the last tyre,i used my footpump instead. The next morning i went to change the fuse(s) controlling the 3 12volt sockets, only to find that the fuses had not blown.I then started the engine,so as to clear the front and rear screens of frost.Straight away i knew that the heater was not
working+eveything else was n/w including air-con etc. Then when i got out of the Touran, and with the engine still running i could see that the lights were
on including the dipped headlights, also all 4 tail lights were on.Nothing on the circular light switch now works including the front fog-lights,also the rear red
fog light does not work and with the engine running the rad,fan is "going flat out". I checked out all of the fuses inside the car and inside the fuse-box in
the engine bay,all were OK. After checking everything out,the only function not operating was the front wipers, even though the front screen washers
were still working.Next i removed the Neg lead from the battery terminal, after about 20 minutes i refitted the battery lead. All of the electrical faults were
still there,to re-cap:headlights on when ignition key turned;light switch n/w;front & rear fog-lights n/w;none of the heater functions were working;the front
wiper blades were not working;with the engine running, fan on continually. No warning symbols are being displayed once the engine is started.I am a 68 year old retired haulage contractor, and still like to help maintain our vehicles. I live some 19 miles from the nearest VW garage, and without heater and wipers, and with the front w/screen now frozen inside and out,i am now unable to proceed any further. Please can you help, has anyone else experienced
these electrical problems.Regards,Geoff.Elliott.

It sounds like you've swamped the ECU. VW's don't like water in them and if you've used a hose to clear leaves, instead of a blower or your hand, it is likely to have been forced into the loom and under the dashboard. If you've got Home Start breakdown cover I'd be incined to call them out and not mention the hosing down. When I had a similar problem on my Passat, where the ECU was wet, I used a hairdryer to dry the car out which let it work again although the terminals will corrode. Just as an aside, on my previous Sharan the loom got worn through where it passed through the bulkhead and can short out giving similar problems. Mine caught fire which is extreme though.
