Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
hi!
I've been looking around for the week or so and can not find the certain answer.
I find the factory fitted audio system just embarrassing ( non Bose) and I want to upgrade it.
One of main things needed upgrading are Speakers
I really do not want to start tearing door panels off in this cold just to find out what size of speakers needed.
If anybody did upgrade of speakers and knows for sure what size of speakers is needed for the front and what size for the rear?
is it 6-1/2" (16.5cm) 5-1/4" (13cm)?
are there any speakers adapters needed ? I mean for the speakers case not wiring's
Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

If you find any good replacements and put them in can you post back on here? I'd like to do the same, but hopefully as easily as possible.
Cheers.

Hi!
I will keep the thread updated... So for sure I will let you know what will be the exact speakers.
But it in total it will not be an Easy and a Cheap!!!
I have some other upgrades in mind but even if to talk only about audio system upgrade it will be not an easy job to do.
Probably I'm not the only one who is not happy with the stock sound, but I recommend to reconsider this kind of upgrade unless you are really desperate
my main criteria when updating it:
* whole install has to be professional and visually no changes (or minimum) to the car design.....
probably the cheapest and easiest way is to take out MMI completely and to replace it CARPC or other after market unit, but I find it a "Frankenstein way", because it will never function as well as Original MMI
* after doing this sound upgrade I want to see (actually to hear) some much better sound.
* Price for the whole update has to be reasonable.
I'm trying to design needed system step by step now.... and because I'm not a money printing machine it will take some time before I buy all components
I did some research and Have some thought about why Stock Audio sucks so badly.
1 whatever they did, but Audi did something very wrong when using 3-way component speakers in front door, and 2 way components at the rear.
needless to say it is one of most complex and expensive setups possible
Quite many big brand companies did some experiments with that kind of setup few years ago.... but it was way too complex and expensive to get the decent results even compare to 2 way component..... there are only few companies now producing good 3 way component system and price for it is crazy high..... sorry to say but Vibe space 3d and Focal is not one of them and you just greatly waste your money if you buy 3 way component from them
2 Speakers Location...... this is really disaster I'm not a biggest man in the world but for me to feel comfortably I put my seat a bit back and ending up with woofer on the level with toes and mids with my knees.... I do not have Acoustic laboratory to prove my point I believe this could be one of reasons for bad sound as well....
it is not an option for relocating speakers because it will spoil the whole interior design.....but I hope I found solution in Alpine PXE-H 650
when choosing components for the system I tried to go for brands reputable in long terms not for companies you may hear for 5 years and they disappear.... besides I tried to follow professional reviews, but not what my neighbour teenage son is thinking is the best equipment.
so far I bought
*Alpine PXE-H 650 - System Integration Audio Processor - I been lucky to get reconditioned unit for 130- when normal price is about 300- or more
* 2X Blaupunkt GTA4 Special Edition 2011 - class a/b amplifier for the front and rear 50- each
* few different Class d amplifiers and Subwoofers friends of mine gave me for free - when it comes for sound fine tuning I will find out whatever will be better.
* Speakers should be Alpine SPR-60C. I did not bought them yet because they quite pricey 150- pair... I will wait for Christmas discounts and will try to get them cheaper then
*The hart of the system will be Alpine PXE-H 650
It will be connected to MMI on speakers level and after send the signal using 4 channels (I will find 6 channel setup too complex for me) and subwoofer.... but this is where the problem starts.... for it to process to sound properly you need to leave MMI volume on certain level and to use Alpine Volume control.... but I can not find more or less reasonable solution to control it using dashboard volume and Steering Stalk control.... Using remote control is not an option.
* 2X Blaupunkt GTA4 Special Edition 2011 will run in bridged mode one for front and one for rear..... I can see some people smiling ..... but it is a DECENT A/B AMP .....the only downside they lack power but in bridged mode they will give me 2 x 160 watts RMS power 4 ohms each - 320 rms in total. For me it is more then enough since I will listen music inside the car not outside. Besides for that price you will simply not find any even most crappy 4x120 rms a/b amplifier.
Alpine SPR-60C Should go as much as possible to stock locations and using stock housing.... I'm not a fan of home-made MDF housing
Subwoofer should be in the stock housing..... again I'm not a fan of home-made housing, because it will be a bit hard to convince they any better
amps will be in the boot on the small rack.... so I could still use my boot space. I will make the rack myself
I will keep updated
thanks
Re: Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
That is one system that I would like to see! When it finally arrives post some pictures - and then maybe set yourself up with the blueprints to sell to the rest of us! :biglaugh:
Re: Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
And then there was.......silence?
Actually looking at threads to understand who the stock (non-bose) speakers were made by.
I replaced the stock speakers in my Jag with an Infinity Kappa 11 speaker solution, Jag Dealer said it sounded better than their Bowers and Wilkins set-up, so sat in one and had to agree
PS where's the sub in my car or if not fitted can I fit one?
Re: Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
Yeah I was really hoping to find my car with BOSE, but none around at the time of which I was fast running out. The base stock system aint that bad by any means, but it aint that good either.
I commend your effort and can't wait to hear of the updates, but sadly way too much work for me.
Re: Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
hi!
because I'm not a money printing machine I had to save some money to buy the rest of the system
*Another thing it was not really pleasant to start doing such a job in the winter just off road in front of my house
* Looking for the PRO to connect stock volume regulators ( both on dashboard and steering wheel) to
Alpine unit while bypassing canbus
So far I bought
*Alpine PXE-H 650
* 2X Blaupunkt GTA4 Special Edition 2011
* Alpine SBG-1244BP 12"
* INPHASE AUDIO AMP IPA 1601
* Alpine SPG - 17CS
I really hope To finish what what I started in one or two month period
Re: Audi A6 2007 speakers upgrade help
Some
Thanks for the update, can you advise of the actual speaker sizes?
Look forward to the update when/if the weather/wallet situation improves :biglaugh:
