passenger footwell soaking wet
hi guys bit of a weird problem. have noticed a few times since we bought the car in sept that the front passenger foot well carpet gets soaking wet. the weird bit is , it only seems to get wet after i have filled the windscreen washer bottle up. washer bottle appears to have a leak in it and needs filling up again on a regular basis. at first put the wet carpet down to blocked drains in the scuttle/plenum so popped the gromets out and drained it. it hasnt rained today so i know its not that. but just before the wife went ot work in the car i did fill the washer bottle up again as the warning came up on the dash. anyhow. she came home and the footwell is soaking wet again.
any ideas/advice greatly appreciated
many thanks, kris
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
do you have a rear screen wash and does it work ?
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
sorry should of said. car is an estate. yeah it has rear screen wash, works but is a bit weak/limp. if that makes sense
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
i would presume then that the rest of the water that should hit the rear screen is leaking out of the pipe and getting the footwell wet. not sure which route that pipe takes though but chances are its in the sill channel so i think you need to start pulling carpets up to find it.

There's a joint in the pipe behind the carpet adjacent to where your left foot would rest if you stretched your legs out in the passenger seat. You don't have to remove acres of carpet to get at it either, which is a good thing.
If I was Kris, that's where I'd look first.
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
cheers guys. will have a look at the weekend.
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
I would look at it ASAP, if you carpet is wet that means your CCM (Comfort Control Module, controls a lot of electrical goodies) will most likely be submerged in washer fluid. Very expensive to replace if the water manages to get into the box, or corrode the wiring.
Re: passenger footwell soaking wet
I've just sorted my rear screen wash issues . I found the joint split ie undone in the front passenger footwell under the carpet. Joining this didn't solve the issue - I checked the other joint which is very close to the rear wash wipe motor in the boot but it was fine . Despite searching forums couldn't find any other joints . Finally find another broken joint in the passenger side storage compartment in the boot - had to dig down beneath the polystyrene compartment . Bingo ! Connected up and problem solved - rear wash wipe working for the first time in my ownership . Small issue but v satisfying to get it sorted . A6 2003 Avant 1.9 tdi 4b . I'm new to this forum - hope this info is useful .
