6 cylinder Swirl Flap Linkage fixes in Bucks (plus servicing etc.!)
For those with the V6 engine who may suffer from the swirl flap motor "implausible value" fault when the linkag wears, there are several threads (including a sticky) about inlet manifold replacement. However, there are some fixes available that don't involve replacement. I was aware of one offered by Fontain of Iver, Bucks for about £250 for both sides (as opposed to the £1200 for replacement). I've now found another source of the same repair - I dropped my car off last night for service & MOT, and was chatting to the owner, and mentioned that the manifolds should be ok, and we chatted about the repairs and he said they did one - I mentioned Fontain and he said he used to work there.. Apparently the repair involves some plastic metal, and they've had good long term results from it.
So, for those withing sensible distance the two places I would suggest for repair instead of replacement are:
Used Audi Specialists in Iver, Buckinghamshire - Fontain Motors » Iver » Buckinghamshire Fontain, High Street, Iver, Bucks and
VAG TUNE SERVICES Aylesbury - Specialists in Audi, Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda marques VAGTUNE, 55 Edison Road, Rabans Lane, Aylesbury. (Which is where I went last night)
On the subject of VAGTUNE, they've obviously not done the work yet, but first impressions were good. A fairly new inductrial unit, small, but a nice clean an tidy office, and a view through a window into a clean brightly lit white painted workshop.

Do you how they do the repair it, since it is so "cheap" compared to the suggested solution from Audi?
(I'm in Norway - so it is somewhat quite a drive for me... :o)
But it is even a more expensive repair here :aargh4:

I'll try and get the detail when I pick the car up tonight (assuming it passes it's MOT!)

Re: 6 cylinder Swirl Flap Linkage fixes in Bucks (plus servicing etc.!)
Well I had all the work done (tho they'd missed the MOT off the booking so that'll be done tomorrow after work :Blush2: - they'd have done it yesterday but the whole industrial estste was without power due to electricity co work.). Longlife service, so oil & filters, plus brake fluid change, coolant change to GF13, front and rear discs and pads for the princley sum of £707 inclusive. Not bad I think. Oh, and just as I was leaving he ran out and gave me 1l of tripleQX oil (which is what they use for all services)- they were doing a promotion with full services!
Asked about thet fix they did. The way he explained it, the implausible reading error comes from too much rotation being sensed. They use high temp plastic compound (meant for certain body repairs) to build up the stops, which prevents the over-reading. Been doing them 3-4 years, and not had a repeat customer yet. Not a quick process - apply, harden, sand down to shape - but apparently effective,

707£, thats not bad at all, is it? I've just found the receipt from the former owner for the change of my brakes+pads, abot 1100£... (for the Allroad, that is :D)
Re: 6 cylinder Swirl Flap Linkage fixes in Bucks (plus servicing etc.!)
Very reasonable I thought. The brakes and pads themselves were about £450 of the bill. I was looking at parts costs from Eurocarparts, and it came to around £200 for the rears (pads and discs), and the garage quote was £260, so it was a no brainer as far as I was concerned. The service itself (long life) was around £250, the rest was sundries - I had a brake fluid and coolant change too. Labour was £50/hr and they charged 3.9 hours for the work.
Oh, and it passed the MOT no problem last night too.

regarding the manifolds, which one is "Bank 2"? left or right (perfect if anyone has the correct numbers for it)
I have this error:

Hi,
When sitting in the car facing forward bank2 is on the left hand side. Don't have part numbers sorry.
