Upgrading ICE.

Hi.
I have a MK4 Golf 2001 S with i think has a beta head unit, tape player and single cd player on top of each other.
I was thinking of upgrading the ice/speakers.
Basically what I want to do is get the best sound i can on a reasonable budget.
One thing I am not too keen on is leaving the thing looking tacky.
Can anyone help ?

Hi,
You can either get a double din unit that will use up the space or you can get a "Tray" from VW to cover up one of the DIN sized holes... The tray is quite nice and OEM and is carpeted at the bottom... I done this is one of my Passat's and looked good
