Problems with driver side central locking
Hiya, about a couple of days ago when locking the car via key fob the locking made a whirring noise and sometimes did not lock. Now it has stopped locking altogether with the key fob, I can still lock it with the key in the door and all the other doors lock fine via the key fob. Do you think it might be just the driver door locking motor ? Any advice on how this can be fixed is appreciated,
Regards Jeremy
Re: Problems with driver side central locking
Sounds like you are having the exact same problem I'm having with my 2005 model year Golf Mk 5. After doing a bit of research it sounds like this is fairly common. The solution appears to be a new door lock assembly. I picked one up from my local VW dealer last week for about £120 all inc and plan to fit it myself soon. You may be able to find them a lot cheaper elsewhere but I wanted to play safe. There's also plenty of used ones on eBay but there seemed little point fitting a used replacement where who knows how long it might last.
Fitting is a little involved because you have to unbolt the door skin to gain access but it doesn't sound too bad. By the way the VW dealer quoted around £200 if they were to fit it as well as supply.
I'll let you know how I get on,
Stuart

Re: Problems with driver side central locking
I fit my new, replacement driver's door lock mechanism this week. It's actually not too big a job if you plan and follow the guides carefully. Everything's working fine again now.
I've written a new article on my website if you are interested: Stuart Dalby - 2005 Volkswagen Golf Mk 5 - Driver's Door Lock Replacement
Hope that helps,
