Rear dvd
What is the best cost affective option for rear seat dvd entertainment, needs to be asthetickly pleasing. Going to spain by via ferry & need to entertain family in the rear. I don't have tv in motion either, yet.
Option 1 headrest monitor with dvd changer in boot £700
Option 2 roof mount dvd player £200-500
Option 3 hook on dvd monitors £200
Option 4 ipad on brackets £???

How old are the family members in the back?

I had the rooftop type with a 10in screen, you could pipe the sound thru fm radio or infrared headphones. But i found it got in the way when in use as it does obscure your view.
Also consider if you one source to both screens or each screen to have its own dvd player.
Ipad would need a power source. I guess it would also be to one side of the car unless you have two ipads.
Ive also seen head rest fitted monitors but the player is fitted between the front seats towards the back.
The best looking in my opinion are the headrest fitted screens. Nice and tidy.
Privacey glass helps with security.

Re: Rear dvd
we use the portable units which have 2 screens and 1 dvd player and head phones. Only problem is the wires can be a pain but its not to bad. Think you can now get the portable units with the dvd player in them.
Not sure about the dvd player in the boot think that would be a pain when they wanted to change the dvd

Re: Rear dvd
My favoured option if a 6 disc dvd changer in the boot with headrest monitors, just need to see if its got a seperate remote or can be linked to the mmi. Shame this if the dearest option though

Re: Rear dvd
We have these fitted:

Very neat with only one cable from each screen to the power supply and IR headphones. They clip out of the stantion mounts in seconds when you park up too!

Re: Rear dvd
OK, this is probably not exactly what you were asking, but my solution based on many, many trips to Europe with kids from when they were nought up to teenage years would be:
2 x these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DVPFX77..._ob_ce_title_0 or similar (includes car charger)
Plus
2 x these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Mini-Li...bxgy_ce_text_b
Plus
1 of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/LUPO-Cigaret...9085112&sr=1-2
And
2 x these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Hea...085167&sr=1-13
About £245 all in, delivered.
My rationale:
- No installation hassle or costs.
- You can take them and use them out of the car.
- No screens left in the car for scrotes to steal. Even if they can't use any nicked screens, they will look for your DVDs.
- You can use in other cars.
- You can change discs on the move (compared to a boot-mounted changer)
- The 2 users can watch/listen independently.
- You can have your own music on through the car audio. (Believe me, this was a god send compared to listening to tinny DVD commentary from the back!)
Good luck.
