Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
Hi,
I've read about this issue and the problem with water from the rear washer getting into the switch. I've already removed the boot lid trim and it's bone dry, no sign of water anywhere. I've also read that there can be issues with the alarm going off but I've not experienced that.
The symptoms I've got, which all appeared at the same time, are:
Boot lid warning dispayed
Rear wiper and washer don't work
Indicator lights don't flash when locking the car, but do when unlocking
Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Unplug the lock switch and if the light goes out, fit a new lock. Fit a new rear wiper as well.
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
Thanks, will give it a try tomorrow.
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
As above, but aso I would remove the boot lock & check for ingress of water, I've fixed some by clearing the water out so all bone dry, with a hair dryer no less lol, the lock has then started to function again.
Wiper motor, I'm trying to remember, if when the boot lock isnt in the closed position if the wiper motor functions, done fair few & stupidly memory has let me down this time lol, anyway, remove the black water jet cap thats on the top of the glass side of the wiper motor, as these can get blocked & then the water is held within the pipe & rusts the internals & the nipple top, when cap removed, try the wash wipe again as of course the block stops this from dispersing water even when motor is fully functional, thus clearing the jet holes or replacing the cap for very little cost.
Once rear lock is sorted, the lights will flash when locked :)

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, I finally got round to tackling this today.
I removed the lock and gave it the hairdryer treatment (!!) but it's not made a difference.
After I've removed the connector from the left side of the lock the bootlid warning disappears, the wash/wipe works and the indicators flash when I lock the car. Basically everything works except the lock itself! I had to open it manually from the inside. When the connector is plugged in the lock works fine.
Is there any way to check the connector?? As the lock itself is working obviously I don't want to buy a new one if it's not the root of the problem.
Cheers
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
I did mean the connector aswell mate, you can remove the wires from the housing & dry out, they're probably corroded anyway which is where the issue is in most, also scratch the pins on the lock itself where the connector plugs in as it corrodes there aswell.
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
Hi,
I found a new boot lock available from an audi dealer on ebay for £35 so decided to give that a go. I've just finished fitting it and everything is working again.
For anyone looking in that finds themselves with similar symptoms there was no sign of any leaks from the rear washer, everything was bone dry after removing the boot trim. I guess the microswitch gave up for whatever reason?!?
Thanks for the advice. :fing02:
Cheers

That's a bargain, they are only £32 at a main dealer, I hope you did not pay any postage on top of the £35...
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
No, the £35 included p&p.
Re: Boot lid warning displayed and related issues!
i have a 2005 3 door a3. A couple of days ago my boot wouldn't shut in the morning. Having read up on the useful previous posts on this forum, I had expected the boot door to be wet and the microswitch to be corroded. However, much to my surprise there were no leaks or signs of anywhere. I ended up playing around with the lock and applying a bit WD40 and that got it working again. however, the light on the DIS was still (incorrectly) telling me the boot was open. I've removed the lock and had a closer look at the microswitch - the connections there seem fine.
should i be ordering a new lock, or is there something else I should be trying first?
thanks for the help.
