I have just changed my brake pads but the sensor has a male plug on it and there is a male plug on the car, so couldn't plug it in. Can I just snip the plugs off and simply connect the wires?

Why not swop the plug off the old pads for the new ones so you can make a permanent join in the wires .Are you sure they were the right pads?
Sounds like you have the wrong pads?
They were the right pads, well physically and dimensionally identical to the old ones apart from the sensor plug. The old plug fell apart when I persuaded it off so that can't be used. I was wondering if i could just connect the wires since as far as I can work out all the sensor does is cause the circuit to close.
But I might just pull the sensor out and go back the guy who sold me the pads and see if it can be swapped for one with a female connector so it will fit.
