Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
is it really this simple?
http://www.ehow.com/how_8000453_repl...r-audi-s5.html
I have a blown Sub I suspect, Audi have quoted £50 for a new one (reasonable) and £200 to fit it (not so reasonable!)
if it is just a case of unscrewing and undoing the power lead I'll do it myself, can anyone confirm?
thanks
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
I should'nt think it is very difficult although that procedure in the link does smell a bit fishy !
The only area of difficulty I could see would be if the SUB is rivetted in place as is the case with speakers in some cars now namely Fords..
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Any update on this? Think I have the same problem - buzzing from the sub if any sort of bass in a song.
Those instructions certainly don't apply to my vehicle as the sub is the other way up with the cone side of the speaker visible from the boot. Would love to get the back parcel shelf off to see what's going on in there. Anybody have a guide on how to remove this?
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Hi Mate
sorry no, I did however get confirmation from a car audio shop that If I bought the part from Audi, then they would fit it for around £50-70 just for the labour...just waiting til I get chance to get round to it really.
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
I can confirm that removing the sub is a right PITA. The sub on my car went and I had it replaced under warranty - it took them all day and they ended up buying in a new rear shelf (which had to be removed to get at the sub) because they broke some of the parts which are quite brittle.
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Just to update people, I went to my Audi parts dept (connected to the dealer) and bought the part myself, £34! how can they justify charging £50 for the part if I had booked it in, when they would just get the same one from the same place!?
Getting it fitted for £35 at a Car Audio shop in Manchester on Friday - so that's £69, compared to Audi's £53 for the part, £200 to fit, plus a diagnostic charge of £66 that they will "kindly" waver if I am right and it is the sub! so £69 v £319! some difference!
I'll report back after and let you know how it went.
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Hi All
Just to update you again, I had this fitted by Car Audio Centre in Manchester on Friday, no problems at all and it sounds a lot better now, no distortion at all, and sounds really good even when loud, and it only took them 10 minutes, Audi quoted 1.5 hours for the job!
They were really helpful, and I couldn't have asked for a better service! I'd recommend anyone with this problem goes down this route, buy the part from Audi for £34, and get it fitted by a specialist that actually knows what they are doing for roughly £30. Rather than pay Audi over £300!!
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Good result then. Don't suppose you have the part number for the new sub?
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Not sure of the part number, I'll see if I can find the receipt when I get home.
Although if you just ring up your local Audi Centre, ask for parts department and then ask if they have a Subwoofer in stock for your age of A4, and they may ask for your VIN number. Just give them that, and they can check which one is needed on the system and then advise if they have it
Re: Removing and Replacing the Standard Sub
Any idea what size the normal subwoofer is? I.e. is it 8" or 10"?
My subwoofer suddenly doesn't work. There is a current, but nothing else so I need to replace it. Also, did you manage to get hold of the part number. I appreciate this is going back a while....
