2006 audi A3 2.0 tdi sport power issues (Help)

hi my audi 2006 A3 2.0tdi sport, when getting to around the speed of 80 mph the car is loosing power and goes into idle mode with the engine management light on, when turning off the ignition and switching back on this cures the problem until i get back upto around the speed mentioned earlier in this thread, i have put it on a diagnostic machine & error code p2034 is coming up which says the turbo is over or under power etc!! i have tried the cheaper option of replacing the thrust control sensor which hasn't cured the problem and now i have bought a new turbo for the car!!!! i was told by a specialist that by buying the new turbo should 99% possibility of sorting this problem out!! Before i replace the turbo i want to check with other people's opinions i am doing the rite thing??

Please can i have as many replies as possible to what you think?

Hi, i would ahve checked all pipes for leaks, breaks, cracks, including the intercooler. It also sounds like a boost issue, taht it gets you to 80 no problem, and then dies.. so the wastegate may be letting the boost out.

Had the car on the ramps yesterday couldn't find any problems with the above so put the new turbo on the car & problem solved!!!

i have a a3 53 plate 2.0 tdi sport and occasionally when accelerating hard on motorway car goes into limp mode if i stop and restart fault clears.it done it couple of times over a month at first and didnt put eml light on.now its more regular and eml light on. i had codes scanned at it only came up with p0234 turbo overboost condition.any ideas what this could be??

The turbo vanes are sticking and causing overboost ! DO NOT EXCEED 2,000 rpm until fixed. If the turbo blows it could mean a knackered engine. Common fault at that age (and I assume at least 80k miles ) so you need at the very least a turbo strip down and clean or more likely a recon turbo. Approx cost for the latter is £700 at an independent VAG specialist.

oh i had bad feeling when saw it was turbo problem.is strip down and clean a diy job? is turbo replacement a diy job? short of pennies at moment....

Depends on how experienced you are at working on cars and what equipment you have.

It takes a specialist garage a day to replace turbo. To remove, strip down and clean (which is only a temporary answer) and then replace is obviously longer.

There are kits around apparently where you can spray something into somewhere and try to free the vanes but I don't know where to get them from and they can only put off the inevitable !
