VW Roadside assistance renewal ( 2 years £145 )
Just recieved information about this, this morning as the car is nearly 1 year old (although I thought we got 3 yrs breakdown cover)
In peoples experience - Is it worth it?
Any better recommendations ? (Very apprehensive to join the AA as have known lots of people having trouble with them taking payments even when the customer has cancelled renewals. Also have read the RAC have started doing this and the VW policy is backed by them)
Re: VW Roadside assistance renewal ( 2 years £145 )
Only providing 1 year recovery does seem a bit stingy. I got full breakdown cover inc. onward travel, recovery of vehicle to home, overnight accommodation etc. for about £50 with my car insurance, so the VW cover doesn't seem that great vfm.
Re: VW Roadside assistance renewal ( 2 years £145 )
I had a letter of VW saying the roadside assistance was comming to an end after my first year but I can continue for another year for £108. This roadside assistance is covered by the RAC which I've been a member for a few years, this years renewal was £52.50 so who is pocketing the other £55.50?

What made you think it was 3 years breakdown cover?

Thought it went together with the warranty. Haven't had to look into it with the Mk V or Mk IV as I had cover as apart of my then bank account. Not using that now so need to get this independently. I will sign up to this as it seems more comprehensive than others. For example it covers running out of fuel, recovery after accidents which some others don't cover without extra charges on the spot.
Also recieved another VW letter. "Ensurance" offering accident cover for £50 per year. Seems a pointless money making scheme for VW.

Yes I recieved a letter today just seems pointless as thats whats your insurance is for
Regarding breakdown cover funny that the other VAG group have 3 years Audi and Skoda !
Does it mean these are less likley to Breakdown ???
I also wonder about the price but you have to compare it with full RAC and AA cover as VW is the full package the AA is now reduced to £99 for Summer offer

I thought exactly the same - I was dismayed to find it was only a year. The Golf replaced a 2004 SEAT Ibiza and that came with 5yrs AA cover (which we needed a few times!).
I emailed VW about it and they said many people have cover through bank accounts etc so they don't provide it. Yet they do on Touareg and Phaeton models, and the owners of those are surely much more like to have premium bank accounts.
We also have a Mercedes, Honda and Mitsubishi in the family fleet and they all have roadside assistance packages that are valid for 3yrs and then renew automatically with every dealer service - a useful benefit if you would otherwise have to pay for it.
