Any version will be fine, I've just put a version C in our 2008 Passat with no issues

Yes thanks my son just put free sat nav on my i phone as good as any sat nav so saved some money. Also what parts would i need to use phone with bluetooth cars an s so no stering wheel buttons thanks ken

If the RCD510 is touch screen with the phone button then either the latest VW Bluetooth or Fiscon kit will work With the iPhone and you can control the phone via the headunit otherwise you will need a highline DIS and steering wheel control and most likely the Fiscon bluetooth kit especially if you have the red dash display
