Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
Hello,
I have recently bought a Golf MK4 GTI that has 16” alloy wheels on it and would like to replace the them with the more standard 15” wheels instead.
I’ve been told that this could affect the speedo which consequently would need to be adjusted.
Could anybody tell me if this is correct and if so what would it cost?
Thanks,
Andy
Re: Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
If you fit the standard tyre size ( 195/65R/15 91H) for the standard 15" wheel ( 6J x 15) then the speedo should be fine.
Re: Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
Thanks for your response.
I found some 15" wheels with 205/50/15 but I suppose these would make the diameter too small and effect the speedo. The wheels I have on now (and I think they are the originals from new)are 16" with 205/55r/16
Can you give me some advice.
Thanks.
Re: Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
The 205/50/15s are too small . These would give a speedo reading of 70mph at an actual 64.6 mph. Are these wheels correct for a Golf MK4 ?

Re: Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
I think the tyre size you recommended originally(195/65R/15)was more appropriate.
The wheels I have on the car now are the Lattice type 16" (see attached).
The wheels I would like are the 15"(see also attached).
Could you tell me which model or part number I would need for my car.
Re: Changing 15" or 16" Alloys
I think the 'Lattice' (don't know actual name, if it's not Lattice) type alloys came on petrol GTI's PD150 TDI's and V5's.
The 5-spoke alloys are called "Avus 2" and were standard on GT TDI's (130) and late PD100 TDI's, maybe other models too.
