Re: Brake Disc and Pads
Hi all,
I'm planning to change my disc and pads (front and rear) prior to my Europe trip. I thinking about several options now:
1) Buy the discs and pads from EBC. Used the forum discount and it came up to about 390quid.
2) Buy the front disc and pads from EBC. Buy the rear from Europarts - able to get Pagid ones for much cheaper price. The reason why I'm looking at this option is because the braking is done mainly in the front and I don't mind investing in a good set of brakes.
3) Buy everything from Europarts. Cheaper option, but worry about performance.
I'm definitely not looking at going to the dealers because they are such rip offs. Also, I don't think they have better quality products.
Anyone with experience changing disc and pads before and could kindly share their experience with me please. Really appreciate it.
Cheers.

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
I got my front pads and discs from Europarts. Believe they were Pagid pads but cannot remember the disc manufacturer. Discs come with a wear indicator which can be seen via the wheel spokes which I suppose is quite handy. Came to about £95 if I remember correctly (Oct last year). Easy to fit your self, do not need a special piston return tool as such as they do no wind in, just press in. I bought the draper one for about £16.

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
it's not all that often that I defend the dealers but Have you enquired at the dealer, as they do fixed price jobs for cars over 3 years old which is "Brake pads & discs (front or rear) £249" and that includes labour, see here http://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/se...servicing.html
Just a thought. yes that comes to £498 but thats only £108 more than you said you can get non standard parts for and remeber that includes labour and the work is guranteed.

Do you have the electric handbrake on your model. Regards Peter

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
Found EBC, whilst good, to be difficult to use long term - i.e. they need to be used hard every so often otherwise they can glaze over.
I'm about to replace EBC with pagid on the A3, used pagid many times on mk2 Golf GTi's and always found them to be great.

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
Hey guys,
Thanks for the information so far.
I do have electronic brakes. So I do think I would need to wind them back. I think specialist workshops should be able to do it.
I'm really quite curious about main dealer fixed price advertised on the website. Because recently I've got quotes for my major servicing and they quoted me £480. I wonder how did they come to the £269 advertised in the website. Must bear in mind that this is the same dealer that tried to rip me off by quoting me £150 to change a light bulb! That's why I'm so reluctant to call them to get my brakes sorted.
I might just get all the items from Europarts. Let's see how much these come up to. I'm just a little tempted to get the slotted front disc from EBC. Just for the bling factor... Ok ok.. i'm vain and idiotic.
Cheers.

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
which dealer quoted you £150 to change a bulb?

Re: Brake Disc and Pads
Southend Audi tried to charge me 150 quid for a replacement of my driver side headlight bulb.
Till today I won't ever forget that!
