Caliper Slide Pins

Hi guys,
New to the forum - found lots of interesting stuff!

I have a quick question, my front Drivers side brake squeaks when driving & a bit when slowly braking, at the weekend I took the caliper off cleaned & greased the caliper & greased the back of the pads, but when I put the slider pins back the bottom one tightened but the top pin screwed in but would turn round when it should be tight, does this sound like the caliper carrier thread is knackered & I would need a new caliper carrier?

They can be a bit tricky to line-up and get started, but if
your sure it did get started but wont tighten then the
thread on the pin or the carrier is stripped. If it cant be
re-tapped, then it needs a carrier.

Thanks Jim - The pin thread was fine - so looks like it's a new carrier then!

Yeah, think that's best as you may not be totally happy
with a re-tapped thread on something as crucial as a
caliper plate.:yikes:

Take the carrier off and inspect the threads with a magnifying glass see whats going on,you've got to take it off anyway if its knackered,A trip to the breakers is in order,inspect the threads carefully before buying they often get overtightened.

Just wanted to update, the carrier I got from the breakers was the wrong one, for some reason they sent me a carrier from a 2.5tdi ( 312mm carrier) so after a lot of messing about I got them to send me another ( free of charge) which turned out to be another 312mm carrier, so I decided to purchase 312mm Discs & pads & now have the larger brake conversion!

Could be Jim - I'm not complaining - as they ended up giving me 2 decent 312mm Carriers for £24 Delivered!
