EGR delete

I currently have my EGR disabled by removign the vacum pipe to the valve. Is there any problems associated with this? I have read that this can cause higher exhaust temperatures and damage the turbo seals.

Also is there any point blanking off the exhaust inlet into the EGR valve or will removing the vacum do the same thing.

I would like to take the valve out altogether and put in a straight pipe but the anti shudder valve is on the same unit so not really a good idea.

It can cause higher EGT’s but the main damage you are causing is to the air we all breathe.

I tried removing the vacuum pipe and blanking it with a bolt on my 2004 TDi - however it brought the check engine light on within the first 12 miles. I think the engine management systems are more sensitive to this on the later (2003 onwards) models. Some people with earlier cars have had no problems. Just make sure you do blank the vacuum pipe off though. Personally, I couldn't notice any difference to fuel consumption or performance so reconnected it after 100 miles or so.

If you have blocked the vacuum, there is no point blocking the smoke inlet too, as it will already be closed (unless the EGR seized open already)..

The peak combustion chamber will be hotter, but only by about 50˚c.
The idea is that NO2 is created at temperatures over 1370˚c and adding about 10% O2-free gas (exhaust gas) will keep the flame temperature below this threshold. The downside is 2-5% lower efficiency, and soot loading on the oil.

Thanks some people have reported performance gains I havent really noticed anything my main objective was for the cleaner air intake.

On the B5 you can remap the ecu so that it accepts the lack of EGR input and doesn't throw a fault code. You would have to pay someone to do it though.

I think I read somewhere that the pre 2003 are what they call euro3 and it generally doesnt happen. I've had the vacum unplugged for a number of weeks without turning on a light I haven't scanned it recently though.

I think you are correct Pete. The ecu data was changed at some point which means that later ecu set ups always throw a code. In theory it's easy to rejig the EGR map, but of course you need to know how and have the equipment.

hi everyone ive got an audi a3 2.0 tdi had the egr removed and the egr map re-configured whilst having a remap done the car does seem to run alot smoother. since i had the anti shudder valve or (throttle actuator control unit) pack up, i see that fr&r tuning do a by pass kit which i have purchased and they quoted that the ecu had to to modified to remove the anti shudder function.
since we have try various routes around this as engine check light seems to flag up every time, has anyone ever succsessfully removed this part? any info is gratefully appreciated. thanks james

Why would you want to remove the anti-shudder. It doesn't make sense to remove it.
