Brake upgrade 288mm to 312mm
Been trying to find out if you can upgrade the front brakes from 288s to 312s by only changing the carriers and discs, leaving the 288 calipers and therefore not having to bleed air from the whole system after.
I know it is possable on the mk4s and was curious if the same applied to the mk5.
Had a look on the interweb but couldn't find any info on it so decided to have a go anyway.
Got a set second hand of calipers, carriers and pads from a GTI and new pads and 312mm discs from TPS.
Mocked it all up and found that it does all fit with the only problem being the carriers from the GTI were red and my original calipers were black/rust, but nothing a bit of red paint couldn't sort.
To do this you can follow the guide for changing front discs and pads linked below, but when you put it back together you replace the 288 disc with a 312 and the original carrier with the GTI carrier.

Nice and simple upgrade next time you change the discs.
The part that surprised me was the pads are the same for both sizes of disc.
