Hi all just acquired a nice A4 2.8 Quattro, and have a question regarding keys.
The vehicle came with 1 key, a normal type. should this vehicle have a transponder key or flip keys? Its a 1999 model.
Reason i ask as i have not started it yet due to being non runner when bought so had it towed. :1zhelp:
AFAIK, one flippy and one normal key. plus tag. (at least my 00 plate A3 came like that).

All keys (at least '96on) should have a transponder chip inside. regardless whether its a remote or not. As for the remote locking, it would depend on the model number of the pump in the boot, some do remote, some dont. Cant remember the part nos off the top of my head, but if ye search ye should find.
remote locking was an option untill the facelift in 99 so it may not have flip keys
post your c/l pump part number and ill tell you if it has remote function
the key you got with it should have a transponder if not it wont start car!
Thats great thanks, will get pt no tommorrow. Ideally id like to get the flip keys with remotes, but dependant on coding issues and which transponder frequency keyfob id need? Im assuming if it has remote option, then i can easily use a flip key fob with correct frequency to unlock/lock car, but would need another chip inside to start car?Quote:

or swap the chip out of your current key. (some surgery on the key required)... but if you want more than one key, you'll need another transponder and have it programmed. Can be done with vagcom if you have the cars SKC code.
