timing belt and clutch change
Hi fellas i have a 03 a4 quattro sport 1.9tdi and am contemplating changing the clutch and timing belt. According to the service records the timing belt has been changed about 20000 miles ago. But the thing is i live in ireland and i bought the car in birmingham and do not fully trust the guys i bought it from. There was 12000 on the clock when i bought it and theres now 150000 im not sure even if this milage is genuine. I cant find the service records at the mo but they are not audi dealers. I met a mechanic the other day who was driving an a4 tdi and i asked him about the black smoke when i put my foot down and the uneven idle and straight away he suggested getting the timing belt done. He was not just trying to get the work as he did not want to do it. He said he would if i had not got the belt done myself i would be wise to have it done now. Is there no way i can check if the belt has been done?? And also im thinking of getting the clutch done because when im in 5th or 6th and i floor it the clutch slips. I can work around this by tevving high through the gears but if im doing 60 say and i floor it its not nice any advice would be great. Oh ya and i think the car has been remapped because its just too fast for a 130 and somone i know drove a 2.5 v6 audi and said there was not much difference power wise so im guessing its remapped

Only sure fire way on the belt is to change it yourself! you could pop the cover off and check the general condition of the belt,the makers painted logo should still be visible on it if you spin the engine,but even if everything looks ok you still dont know if its fitted correctly or tensioned right,black smoke on flooring the acc is over fueling,get a scan done to check the maf.

were about in brum did you get the car if it was from some asian guys trust me mate get the belt done asap

Not sure where bouts but it was about 15 minutes drive from the airport and they were pakistani i think. Maby they were legit but im not wantin to take any chances

Cheers for the info mate i had the car serviced at a vw garage when i got it and it did show up a fault in the maf but i bought one off ebay and changed it. Maby it was a bad one too i dunno but i really dont want to go and spend a 100 euro on a part that i dont even need

Check over the boost pipes through the intercooler etc for a split or leak,could be loosing air through there,ebay mafs are crap!

I know what you mean but the thing is i flew over from ireland with cash in my pocket to buy a car with return tickets for the ferry which cost me over 300 euro and i the other cars i had lined up to view let me down so i had to buy something that day or else be out of pocket and i fell in love with it when i seen it anyway to be honest. And the guy that came with me said there was probly an injector needed to be done so we knocked 500 off the price and thought i would use that to get the injector done but as it turns out its probly not the injectior problem

thats why there cheap i suppose. are those pipes easy to get to and view

From the turbo down to the intercooler (ns front wheel arch) and back to the inlet manifold look listen and feel for leaks,but best way is to pressure test it.
