A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
Wonder if anyone else has/is experiencing the problem Audi seem unable to fix.
My 57 plate Avant keeps suffering from water in the bootlid. When you raise the boot you can here the water sloshing around and then running out of the catch/courtesy lights.
So far they have:-
Refitted the washer pipe to the rear washer
Fitted a mod kit to the pipe work where it passes through boot hinge
Replaced the boot seal (don't know why as there is no ingress into thye boot itself)
Replaced the high level brake light
During the above taken out and refitted the tail lights
....... the only thing left is the seal from the rear window to the boot itself!
Any suggestions on a cure as the warranty runs out in January!!!!
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
Did you resolve this? Mine is 9 months out of warranty and has just developed the same problem. I'm fairly sure it's caused by rain rather than the rear washer as the tailgate fills up after heavy rain when the car is parked.
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
OP hasn't been on in 2 years, doubt he's coming back.
Did you do another search, this has been discussed pretty recently, have a look through the section.

Thanks Chris, I read the first 20 pages and then searched. I'll keep looking!
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
Open tailgate and look at the bottom edge should be two small black oval grommets, take them out, close tailgate onto 1st latch I.e not fully closed and leave for 10 or so minutes and water will drain out (you'll be able to see it coming out). Hope that helps you mate, worked on mine.

I don't have an Avant but i would recommend that you put a hole in the grommets that are mentioned above.
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
I have had the same thing.... Your rear wiper will start misbehaving soon as water comes into the motor assembly.... If they replaced all that stuff they should have checked the hose at the motor itself.... I think that's where your ingress is.

Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
I've removed the grommets as recommended and the remaining water has emptied. Although I'm not ruling anything out yet, I don't think it's connected with the washer because, a) the water is fresh, as opposed to my washer water which is heavily laced with fluid and b) the water ingress occurs when the car is parked and after rain. My next step is going to be removal of the trim and a good hosing whilst i sit inside observing.
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
Audijager ...... Audi did eventually resolve the problem, and like you it was water ingress and not the washer (although they did fit the 'recall fix' to this known problem as well!). Eventually they removed the rear screen and replaced it, along with all the seals, including rear light clusters. This did appear to 'do the trick' as the problem did not reappear. However, it didn't help another water issue I subsequently had .... but I guess driving too quickly through a flood can hardly be blamed on Audi .....!!!!!
Re: A6 Avant - water in the boot lid
Sounds like your best bet is to pray it doesnt rain...
