Strong smell of fuel from exhaust
Hi all,
First post on here and glad i found this forum!
My mk3 1.4 golf has a very strong smell of fuel coming from the exhaust. It is like this when running cold or after a long drive.
Ive checked the air filter and seen no problems but could it be running to rich??
Thanks for any help
Will
Re: Strong smell of fuel from exhaust
Short answer, yes.
As to why could be a number of things ignition side, coolant/MAP/MAF sensor. Could be other things too but I would start with the basics and work upwards. Air/Fuel/Spark.
Down side is it will eat away at your catalytic converter. Not pleasnt or the cheapest part to replace.
Code scan is the way forward, try to pull some live data from the sensors or ID any missfire codes if any are showing.
If mpg isnt being hampered badly, then it might just be a clogged fuel filter - the exhaust smells a bit like off petrol when its been burned.
