polo 95 distributor cap

Hi there,

Two months ago, my polo occasionally misfired and after returning to it when its still hot it wouldn't start.

I have figured out the problem is the distribtor cap points and rotor being dirty.

I replaced the plugs / leads / cap and rotor arm. Two months down the line the cap and rotor have black deposits on them again and its up to its old tricks. A quick clean of the cap and rotor gets it going but why are they burning out so quick. I bought all genuine / good quality parts.:aargh4:

Anyone any ideas???, is the voltage too high?? I dont think this car has a condenser on it (or at least i cant find it). mk 3 polo 1.0 1995 (6n).

update:

still having this problem of carbon build up on the cap and rotor after a few hundred miles. changed the coil today as seemed to be getting a short through the amplifier. strange because the car runs fine until the carbon builds up.

anyone any other suggestions as to what this might be. any help appreciated.

It has electronic ignition so therefore no condenser. If you are having an excessive build up of carbon on the cap and rotor, it may be due to poor quality components and an excessive plug resistance. I suggest you fit new genuine plugs, leads cap and rotor and that should cure the problem.

Unfortunately I have already done this. I bought a genuine VW cap & rotor and expensive leads and new correct spec plugs. Still no difference. Will see if the coil fixes it. If not I'm stumped.
