Exhaust problem

I've got a 1999 1.8 APT engined Passat and the front flexi pipe has come away from the pipe leading to the cat. Its not blowing, more of a 'sporty' rasp with a rattle at idle. Now, can the flexi part be replaced or is it a whole new section including the cat? (Which is over £500 from VW! I laughed too but that is fitted sir!) It's done 90k now and is otherwise is in good health.

maybe possible to weld the blow hole in the old one too , provided its not the actual flexi mesh thats holed.

Yes except the mesh isn't holed, the collar has come off and the pipe looks a little rusty. A repair may be possble then.

im almost certain they can be brazed.
