Mk 5 Monza Alloys - Corrosion
Hi,
I have a Mark 5 GTI with 18' Monza alloys, recently the wheels have started to corrode quite badly. The damage is under the lacquer and there is only a small section on one wheel which is related to kerb damage.
I have noticed this on a couple of other GTIs which makes me think it might be a known problem?
Has anybody had any luck getting it fixed under warranty?
Cheers
Andy

I have noticed this on one of my Monza wheels too. Nothing to do with kerb damage. Laquer has begun to turn white near the wheel nut recesses. Getting the wheel refurbished has been quoted as £95+vat.
Re: Mk 5 Monza Alloys - Corrosion
Not too sure whether mine are Monzas, or not, but the corrosion on the alloys of my 2005 Golf Plus became quite noticeable last year. The VW dealer (in France) replaced them (after visits by the VW rep and a number of photographs) indicating that they (the dealer) and VW France would split the costs 50/50.
That was a result then.
Have seen lots of corrosion on VW alloys, just look at them in second hand car lots, even on VW forecourts.

Hi Andy, I have been looking in to buying a used Mk5 GTI and read so many reviews. I think it was WhatCar review (online) that said one of the things to look for was white worm on the alloys but it did say they should be replaced under warranty as it was a known problem. But I have also heard it is very hard to get VW to coff up.
Off subject a little: Apart from the alloys have you had many issues with the car?
