    Genuine VAG pads are very expensive, even the most basic Q5 pads are 90 a set and the rest will be labour. Most garages get very grumpy if you supply

    i would possibly look at either driveshaft imbalance and the flywheel. A good gearbox specialist might be able to help with the flywheel diagnosis.
