Hi all. My afb + tiptronic powered A6 has thrown a wobbly. I've had a look at loads of threads and have many possibilities but was wondering if anyone can be specific about my problem.

The other morning it took ages to fire up and had a big cloud of unburnt fuel smoke when it did. Then gearbox went into limp mode. Later that day it cleared itself and was not smokey on other start ups all day.

Today took a while to start and was again smokey. But today when it went into limp it stayed there and has been like it all day even though it's been started and stopped 8 or 9 times.

Fault causes lack of power ie. will not exceed about 50 mph or about 2000rpm under load and seems that gearbox slips but I assume this is because it's in limp.

I had an explore when I got back home and found that the turbo pipe had a split. I fixed this and started up. Great no fault so must be a false reading because of air leak.....or so I thought. When revved to about 1800 revs fault returns.

All gear lights on dash are on. Not too smokey after first start up. Runs the same with MAF disconnected.

Other posts basically list everything from MAF to injector pump. Anything a bit more specific would give me an idea of how much to ask the bank for ;)

Getting it read tomorrow but want to be prepared.

Thanks for reading

Sounds similar to a fault I had, turned out to be the turbo actuator wasn't working (diaphragm split). Replaced it and problem solved. Have you had the car checked on VAG COM?

Codes read.......

It's that special injector with the wire......But only when revved over 2000.
Fitted another injector, we now have POWER!!

Thanks for suggestion about poss turbo actuator etc. But fitted new turbo etc last April (2009) so was looking elsewhere.

Well done! How much was it? I once saw a price and fell of my chair. :(:aargh4:

Went to chap I know who builds engine etc.

He used his £5000 new snap on reader that lists EVERYTHING. Believe me even he said it gives too much info!!!!!

Found fault. He then said he had bought an engine for the heads (£350) sold the bottom end for £250 and kept what wasn't used.

Low and behold in his box of bits he has a full set of injectors:beerchug:

So I had it read and cleared an injector and then re-read and cleared again...

HOW MUCH???????

£20.......................YES £20

He did say that at 267000 miles it deserved to get 1 injector. He reckons they're about £150 for that one but I daren't ask.

I have a spare alternator. For future referance if the worst happens.

RESULT OR WHAT?
