Went to an auction today to buy a used Golf 1.9 TDI, on a (2006) 06 plate with 63000 miles on it. I couldnt inspect it as it was locked but I couldnt see any button on the dash ( looking through the window) for the Air Con.

As I couldnt gain access to the vehicle, I didnt bid as it was sold as seen

Do these vehicles normally have air con ? is there a button for it ? or are they like the Mercedes where you turn the dials to cold and it becomes ice cold!

Can anybody advise ? The car looked in good condition but as I couldnt see under the bonnet and couldnt see the air con , it put me off.

Do these cars need the timing belt changed with the water pump at around 75000 miles ?

what are the things to look out for ? the prices going at thre BCA Auction are not that much cheaper than the ads in autotrader, auction prices high at the mo?

yes mate they should all have aircon, it may say econ in stead of aircon and the button is in the centre by the heater controls, the cam belts are due at 75,000 miles or 4 yrs (auto data recommended) iirc vw say between 60,000 and 90,000 miles depending on time (*** i dont know) as for bca they are a little cheaper but you cant really go thro the car sop you could be buying a lemon, if you do buy from auction, check as much as you can, good luck mate

thanks Phil, much appreciated, glad to hear they all have air con, i was half tempted to buy it and take a gamble but somethin was tellin me don't!

I dont know why you cant inspect, this was at BCA Manchester, but at Brighouse / Nottingham ye can. I mean ye wouldnt buy private and not look under the bonnet wud ye ?

The sold as seen put me off without bein able to properly inspect it , all doors on every vehicle locked, i beginning to think auctions are false economy!!

anyhow Im still on the look out!

Thanks again
