I saw these on ebay and wondered if anyone knew anything about how good or even legal these kits are. A HID xenon kit that replaces standard bulbs just sounds too simple?

You will need projector lenses as well for them to be legal. Halogen bulb lenses do not focus the light properly, hence why you get loads of tools blinding you.

mine dont blind me when my misses is driving mine, if i was you id stick to a 6k set and you will need to get the hid bulb holders as from what i can see they dont come in the kit, they cost about £12 for the pair, just search ebay for hid bulb holders golf mk5

Unfortunately no aftermarket HID kit is strictly road legal as you are changing the lighting system (halogen to Gas discharge) in your car and for this reason the bulbs can't be E marked which is a legal requirement. You also won't have the self leveling and washer systems installed which is also a legal requirement for HID. Saying this however they will pass an MOT as the beam pattern and colour of the light (as long as you don't go higher than 6/8000K) will be correct and this is what gets tested in MOT's. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, think I'll give the Xenons a miss then. I thought there had to be a catch with it sounding so simple.

Go For them they look absolutly great. It makes a huge
difference to night driving. Just had mine done a couple of days
ago and now planning on getting my other car done. But don't go above 6k.
