Genuine Roof Bar Rubber Strip

I have just bought a set of genuine roof bars from my local vw dealer to replace the Thule set I was using. I am struggling to fit the rubber strip into the bar. It pops back out quite easily. I remember the Thule ones being difficult but not this bad.

Any suggestions on how to make this easier?

Use washing up liquid as a lubricant and once fitted give the strip time to 'relax' before you cut off the excess. When I fitted mine I made the mistake of cutting off the extra bit too soon and it shrank to leave a gap.

I fitted my rubber strips in without anything just did it bit by bit however my thumb was knackered by the end of it all. I did think that it was a poor show by VW not to have the strip fitted at the factory first(seeing that they cost in excess off £150)

I would have to agree cut the excess off once the rubber has time to relax (mine ended up with a small gap too).
