Think I'm cuasing a bit of a stir on facebook as many of you know my hoby is Mini now my car isn't concours standard but I'm sick of seeing trailer queens winning all the thropies so I set up a group called Concours Cars Should be Driven Not Trailed in 24 hours it had over 200 members but it appears that some people don't like it as they say people have spent £1000's on cars and don't want to drive them what is the point in doing that cars are meant for what being towed on a trailed or driving:confused:

200 members is hardly a stir on facebook. I'm sure that "Can this sausage roll get more fans than Cheryl Cole?" has got more than 200.

The thing with the Concours class is that it is just that - Concours d'Elegance, so to win, a car really needs to be in perfect condition, and you can't keep a car in that condition if you drive it.

Don't they also have another class for "Concours du Daily Drive" for cars that are driven as a first car, or "Concours du Driven To Show" for cars that are kept garaged, but have to be driven to the event (although then you'd see cars being unloaded half a mile away in the dead of night)

Personally, I feel that cars should be driven, as that's what they were designed for, and if I win the lottery, I'm going to buy that yellow Lancia Integrale with delivery mileage and the polythene still on the door cars and seats, and drive it, sideways.

No they put them all in together they do have premier class where winners go but thatsa about it. YOur right about the trailers down the road that happens alot each to there own but I prefer driving mine I keep it right but as it's wax oiled I don't bother concoursing it as I'd loose mark staight away!

each to their own really. some classics should be kept warm and dry and never driven, for fear of crashing and never being able to get the parts to rebuild it. but in my mind, a car is a car, and should be driven. if i won the lotto, i would buy that bmw m3 that recently did the tours on the net, and drive it like i stole it.

I am kind of lucky I guess. A kind of mate who in the time I have known him has changed his Ferrari more time than I do my underwear. He has had 5 x 430 variants in 8 months. Two Scud's and two 16M's amongst them.

Last year he bought his first Scud on Wednesday and entered it in Concours on Sunday and came 2nd. However the car at the time was unique, not many and completely standard. He drove it there too.

Another mate with a Concours 355. He keeps it in Carcoon and the attention to detail is second to none. He does drive it to the shows and regularly wins or comes 2nd.

Concours is just what it is. I entered my Mondial the 1st year I had it not knowing anything. I think it came last :D

Seems a shame not to drive 'em.
I've got quite a few old records (vinyl rules!) a lot of which are limited edition, coloured vinyl, picture discs etc. but I never think twice about playing them even though they're worth quite a bit & rare. It's what they're there for!
I can't be doing with over-preciousness personally. There's a difference in having pride in something & neurotically wrapping it in cotton wool!
Just my opinion, each to their own.

I don't know if its the same with other makes but some of the mini guys and girls put rubber flooring down to park their cars on (after cutting the grass!!!) and then put a fench round the car so no one can get near t thye change the wheels for new ones with the stickers still on the tyres whats the point!

They talk about the Concours d'Elegance as being as if the car has just driven off the production line or even better, you could say that this is bordering on customising the car. I don't if custom car owners would complain about that. The main fault lies with the organisors of the rally or show, not having different classes. Maybe a driven Concours with proof of mileage driven per year, but even then, like the midnight trailer there would be ways of getting around that.
How about a class for the most unwashed car - think I'd be up for that:D

My mate has a gorugous JCW Cooper S in BLack with red detailing it looks fantasitc he said the other week he keeps thinking of not washing his car for a few months and then enter it in concours just to see poeples faces:biglaugh:

One of my other mates used to work at a Mini/BMW dealer and he said he thought he should bring a car which had just come off the lorry with all the wax, stickers and protective plastic on and enter that as it should win as it had was as it was when it left the factory

Back in the day I used to enjoy going to a concours, though I only ever went twice.

I never entered a car of my own, reason being was I was put off by the antics mentioned in this thread. Besides, at a concours, there's just as many if not more people looking for bad points about your car than there are people genuinely admiring them. For that reason I think it's a bit false.

each to there own but i find it a bit **** to get the dirt out from between the tread in your tyres, i can think of better ways to spend my afternoons........like watching paint dry or the grass grow lmfao

i say buy it, drive it, enjoy it

I remebrer some years ago they couldn't decide between first and second in one class so the counted the blades of grass in the tyre treads!! To me that is just sad

if i were a judge in that particular competition, i would have declared the winner to be the one who could do the most impressive donut . bit sad really counting grass on tyres.

I feel a little bit down when I've washed and waxed the car and notice the car park dings, but these concours guys would feel suicidal i bet!
