I had the end cap off this morning - from the end of the fascia, exposed when the driver's door is open. I was checking for any loose 'nuts and bolts' but found nothing. However i noted that there wasn't any fuse extractor clipped to the inside of the panel that was removed.
I decided therefore, checking for other loose bits, to remove the matching cap from the passenger's end and lo and behold the plastic fuse extractor had been clipped to the back of this end cap. A fat lot of good that was, if you should you need to remove a fuse on the other side of the car.

You know, I do sometimes wonder about the thinking behind VW's quality control and general construction and it worries me although it is not yet keeping me awake at night. When that happens, I'll sell the car tout de suite.

Please can you tell me how you removed the passenger side end cap? (it has no 'dents' to aid removal)

Believe me, it does but it is not so obvious as the plastic cut out may be obscured a bit by the panel being perhaps a better fit or the cut out not being so well defined/formed.
It is in the same place (distance wise) as the one on the driver's side. Just run a blunt blade or similar down the panel's abutment with the dash. In any case you could insert a blade anywhere along the join and lever the panel out carefully.
