Hi,

I have the front and rear parking sensors on my 09 plate golf se 2.0, im interested in getting a uprated headunit to replace the RCD 310 oem one fitted however when i engage reverse gear the screen on the RCD310 headunit displays a car with bar graphs showing how near/far objects are from the car with the corresponding noise increasing in pitch. Does anyone know if i get a non VW double din headunit will the screen on it display the car like the oem one does?

i had something like this in mind

any help or advice welcomed.

cheers

If you get a proper CANBUS adapter, then it has a parking sensor feed for it that should work....

Mine has, but I don't have sensors or a compatible stereo for it - steering controls for the non OEM unit work fine though :)

I asked about parking sensors when I ordered mine but they only suggested the RCD 510 then I could have the rear camera. Well at another £480 plus the cost of a rear camera.

I've found out since that they offer

Park Assist including Sensor parking sensors, rear and rear-view camera
Sensor controlled steering aid to assist parallel parking and ultrasonic,
audible parking sensors front and rear with optical parking display via
vehicle’s audio system display, rear-view camera - £710 plus the cost of a RCD 510.

Again it comes down to a sales person knowing what options are available, mine didn't. All I want is an audible warning with no fancy display.

I still have trouble parking close to anything especially at the front would you believe. The bonnet drops off quite sharply so you have to estmate the distance.

I've seen plenty of parking sensors as a third party addon. ;)

Cheers James will investigate that further, Keith i already own the car im not discussing options for when you buy a new one regarding headunit choices, im going to be changing the rcd310 already in the car for a non oem headunit that i want to be able to display the parking sensor graphical display that works when i engage reverse gear.

Well that to me seems a bit pointless. If your only watching a little graphical display while you are reversing then thats just hoping it doesn't pick anything up unforseen. When I reverse I use the exterior mirrors with the occational glance at the interior mirror. If you have sensors the just listen for the bleeps along with the other mirrors, there is nothing wrong with belt and braces.

But thats my opinion on reversing, everyone to their own. ;)

sorry your completely missing the point if you dont know why reply?, im happy with the mechanics of reversing with or without parking sensors fitted to my vehicle i just want to know if anyone has changed the headunit and the parking sensor display works with the new one they fitted. simples! :aargh4:

Well if you aren't buying a VW head unit then ask the site you thinking of buying it from, what could be simpler?. ;)

Yes and again ask the person you are thinking of buying it from. ;)
