Hi.. New Member.. Please be gentle.

I am looking to find a mounting device for attaching a Garmin 1390T to the dashboard in front of the right hand air vent. I do not wish to use the vent clips supplied with the satnav and am cautious about fixing the suction pad to the top of the dashboard in case it leaves a mark when I come to remove it. I have seen a mounting plate at

http://www.mountonus.com/Volkswagen-Golf-VI/Brodit-ProClip-Mount-654260-19297.aspx

which would allow a spherical mount to be attached and then the sat nav.

Has any one got any experience of this mounting bracket.

Comments would be appreciated . Thanks

Have used Brodit ProClip mounts in other cars and they are excellent fit and easy install. I'm not keen on mounting the sat nav centrally, i much prefer it to the right of the instrument binnacle as i'm right handed and it less obstructive of my view ahead there. But in response to your question i believe youd have no issues with Brodit if thats where you want the unit mounted.

Well, don't have a go at me but I have a TomTom Europe XXL (5" screen) with a suction mount and I stick it smack bang in the middle of my RCD510 screen and control the Cd/Radio from the steering wheel. Looks just right too. :D

Thats a great position if you could manage without the screen.

Hi,

A couple of pics showing the Brodit mount on the right hand vent. Got my Nokia 5800 mounted on one which I use for navigation as well. It's mounted on a ball socket so I can angle it so I don't get any glare on the screen.

Have used these mounts on my last 3 cars and have no issues. Well made product and fit perfectly

Hugh

Thanks for the great pics. I am beginning to think the right hand vent position will be better than the central ones. Not having had a Satnav before I had kind of overlooked the touch screen requirements and now feel that being right handed it will be much easier to operate on that side. (Thanks to Percymon's comments) The Brodit looks the part also.

Hi,

I buy mine from http://www.dsldevelopments.com/

To be honset you can save a few pence here and there from some other suppliers but these guys stock everything. I have never been let down by these people.

I bought a brodit mount for the MK6's right hand vent. This I used alone but had to polish the surface to remove the textured surface and end up with a near mirror finish. To this surface I was just about able to use the suction pad on the back of my TomTom XL LIVE UPDATES model. However this bracket does make the operation of the vent direction control a bit awkward but not impossible. I did post some photos of this but cant' remember of which forum. it may have been this one or Uk-mkivs.net. It was very successful and rigid and was just about in the right position out of the way of the vision out of the windscreen.

See this link. Mine is shown down the page with the TomTom mounted directly on the polished Brodit air vent clip.

I have the "bean bag" type mounting that I can position my Garmin 3790T exactly where I want it & it's very easy to transfer from car to car (wife & Family borrow it ).The mounting is not very pretty but I can hide the mounting in the boot and take the sat nav with me leaving no trace markings behind. Used it in France this year on Holiday and was very pleased with the mounting & the sat nav.

I have the "bean bag" type mounting....

I use the same type of mount, and agree that it works well. The one I have has a non-slip base and has never moved (even when I used to drive my GTI like a GTI). Also, the ability to remove it with no trace gives some peace of mind.

My Mk6 is even better suited to that type of mount as it does not have the air vent on top of the dash like the Mk5 had.
