I have recently bought a 2003 S4 ad it was serviced before purchase. After about 1000 miles the ESP warning light has come on, indicating a fault. This resets when I turn off and restart.
I have been told this could be due to fragments of metal sticking on the magnet sensors and if I take it to Audi they'll change the leads as standard and give me a big bill.
Q1 - Is this warning due to fragments of metal?
Q2 - Can I clean the sensors to stop the warnings? (if so - How?)
Thanks!

Hi, Is it only the ESP light that came on? No other effects? There is a better chance of some other sensor reporting something and the ESP that disable is only the Symtom. Do you have a OBD Scanner?

I had a simular problem I trasted it to the brack fluid level on my a4 51 plate there is a round cap in the corner where you top up.When I unsrewed the cap there are small tubes at the bottom these must had fluid in them for the sensor to work. My level was between the lines all I done is top up to full and all reset.

GFMalan - Sorry for the late reply. I did thank you before, but i notice it hasn't posted. Yes the only symptom I am aware of is the light being on.
Something that may be of significance, considering McC's reply... When I bought the car, despite having a FASH, it was serviced before purchase. Audi noticed that the brake fluid looked like PAS fluid and so changed it. It was about a few hundred miles after this that the light came on.
I will check the reservoir cap...
