Hi All,
Using VAG-COM Lite shareware with a 2 x 2 adaptor. To change the engine ECU, I believe I need to get into the Coding option but it is greyed out, presumably requiring me to login first?
Can anyone please give me this login number for Audi 80 Cabriolet 1994
2.0E ABK Digifant 1.75?
Thanks, Kevin

The coding value should be 00001 but it isn’t greyed out because you need a login code, it is greyed out because you are using shareware, you can’t expect full functionality for free…
The only way around this with your cable is to pay Ross Tech $99.

Thanks Crasher for the speedy reply. The Ross tech Function Chart/Feature Comparison states Yes against 07 Code Module with no mention of shareware limitation as it does against one of the other features. If I pay the 99$ will I definitely get a useable button for coding, please?
Thanks,
Kevin

I have never used the shareware but if you look closely at the chart
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-functions.html (http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-functions.html)
The $99 VCDS is coloured in a deep red and the $0 is blue, this chart has changed recently so I am not sure about it. I have had some ECU’s on your type of car where they can’t be coded, what is the coding value shown on the main screen?

Thanks again for your help Crasher. I have to say that the differences between free shareware and 99$ Lite are just not clear to me - and then there is the issue of using a third party interface?
I can open the controller and read VAG part no. and Digifant version. The Soft Coding and the WSC fields are empty. I can see a fault code but this is the misleading one about G28 when the engine is not running. According to E***win, you have to opt for Audi 100 or Cabriolet version as only one of these has an idle switch. There is also the issue of matching to throttle potentionmeter? Hope I have answered your question. Kevin.

VCDSLite Shareware does support coding. So why doesn't it do it for your car? Hmmm....
Can you take a screen shot and post it here for us? Something is not making sense.

Hi bearthebruce. Thanks for your interest and sorry that it's taken so long for me to get this screen shot up.
Hope that you can enlighten me.

ECU 039 906 024 D changed to 039 906 024 F and then 039 997 024 FX and is specifically for cars from chassis number WAUZZZ8GZSA000001 onwards. The screen you show is odd, there should be a value in the “soft coding” area.

Thanks Crasher. The VAG number shown on the VCDS screen is also printed on a label on both the original ECU and a second one I have. Is it just that if you bought a new one it has been superceeded?
The second ECU, by the way, won't work at all because of an immobiliser issue - my car just has basic keys with no electronics at all in them but maybe the second ECU came from a car with a more advanced immobiliser with electronic keys?
Bearthebruce expressed curiosity with my screen shot - do you think that I should delete and re-load the software?
Thanks again,
Kevin

I don’t think ELSA is right, I don’t think your coding can be altered and I don’t trust ETKA’s part number info. PM me your reg number so I can check the ECU number.

Can't do a PM yet as still a newbie. Here it is: B20 EAB.
Thanks for your continued interest.

The fact that the module does not show coding suggests that the module does not support recoding. I think Crasher is right - this module has fixed coding.
I am going to ask one of our other guys to check as well on Monday.

Your car is only 368 cars into the change point where immobilisers were fitted and I get the new current ECU part number as being 039 997 024 FX and your current ECU 039 906 024 D goes to 039 906 024 F and then 039 997 024 FX. That would make it an immobiliser equipped ECU which would not work on a non immobiliser equipped car but the build sheet says your car has a factory fitted anti theft system, it is all very confusing but I have had this before with ECU’s just as the immobiliser was introduced in 1995.

Thanks to both Crasher and bearthebruce. The immobiliser really is an issue with the replacement used ECU.
Just about everything I have read suggests that Audi OE immobilisers relate to keys with electronics. My keys, however, are solid plastic mouldings with an old style metal blade - not even a remote for the central locking. There is nevertheless a built in immobilser with
a yellow dashboard lamp showing a key inside a car. I have no reason to suspect the function of this immobiliser with the original ECU, but with the replacement one, the yellow dash light suggests to me that it then becomes immobilised. I was hoping that VCDS would enable me to get the replacement ECU to relate to the immobilser. Is this possible, please?
It also has an OE alarm. Is the OE immobilser a separate box or integrated into the ECU?
Thanks,
Kevin

Your car has the factory immobiliser; the new ECU will need to be matched to the immobiliser.
