Hi all, I have just bought a mark4 GT-TDi and have had it remapped to 150bhp from 115bhp. The clutch seems to be slipping when it gets warm, and only in 4th, 5th and 6th gear? Also i have noticed the temp rises as well when i put my foot down? Can anyone tell me why this could be happening and if my clutch needs replacing?
Cheers :1zhelp:

When i was looking at getting a golf i looked at ther GT-TDi and remapping it as well, my garage told me that if i did that the cluch would not last long because of the extra amount of torque you now have, if you just replace it with a sports clutch that should sort it out. As for the temp
riseing well i'm not 100% sure but i guess as your are making the car work harder it would get hotter, you could replace the rad with a bigger one uprate the water pump.

my advice would be to get the clutch uprated and fairly soon, you're going to be putting strain on the flywheel and if that goes, it wont be cheap to repair.

im planning on remapping mine to the same extent, although an uprated clutch and flywheel will be first on the list.

it isnt unusual for a clutch to slip when placed under extra load such as a remap, although most people are lucky in the fact that theirs is strong enough to handle the increased power/torque.

it is possible, that they have pushed too much torque from the engine in their remap? possible worth a chat with the place that performed the remap? :beerchug:

Thanks for your info, i will be getting an uprated clutch asap. Do you have any ideas on what to get and where to get it from? Also, i have noticed that 1 of the main water pipes coming out of radiator is very hot and the other is cold. Does this mean i could have a blockage somewhere?

The cooler of the two pipes is the flow to the engine and the hotter one is the return from the engine. if there was a blockage the temp would be really high and you would be getting a warning light come on.

due to the clutch and flywheel issues. Would you recommend a remap on a golf MK4 GTi TDi 150. I have been considering for a while now. But this clutch and flywheel issue does concern me. If i did have it remapped to 190bhp. How likely will i need a new clutch or flywheel. My golf has done 40,000 miles.

I cant really recommend it or not just yet as i am trying to solve my problem. I have been told the water pump might be faulty, something about the fan being broke? As for the performance, its awesome. If you're driving down motorway the fuel economy is better, im getting about 55mpg but if you boot it, obviously the fuel is consumed alot more. My Golf has done about 100k so the clutch would probably need changing away, but seeing though yours has done 40k it should be alright?

By the way, the clutch problem has gone and its the overheating which is the problem now. I have noticed as well that the seal underneath the cap on the oil filter housing was missing. I have bought a new filter which comes with the seal and put the seal in. When the engine gets really hot, the seal pops out? I am going to change the oil and filter tomorrow, is there anything else anybody recommends doing?

Hi, your overheating may be the thermostat not opening or water pump impeller being broken on the shaft apparently its a common fault on these i`d check the thermostat first, take it out and hold it in a pan of boiling water, if its working you should see it open take it out the pan and it will slowly close as it cools water pump is a more difficult job (timing belt off). As for the clutch as long as you dont give it too much in high gears and low revs (1000-2500) it shouldnt really slip.:)
