Bought a 1.4 Mk 5 Golf from a VW dealer less than 6 months ago.

Get this !!!!!

The flexible metal coupling at the front of the downpipe of the exhaust is coming apart. So booked it into Kwik Fit who say it has a small Cat on the front and so will cost £500 to repair. AAAAAAAARGHHH !

I went back to my dealer and they have come up with a similar price !!!!!!

Anyone had any similar problems !!!???? On most cars I've owned, in the past, I have managed to get a whole system for that price !!!!!!!!

Anyway, Trying to get my dealer to pay for some of it seeing as I only bought it from them <6months ago.

They are trying to get out of it !!!!!

Cats and flexible couplings do tend to be expensive.

Have you tried to find a used one? There's are several online breakers who might be able to help you.

Alternatively, find something like this (http://exhaustpartsuk.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=34) and find someone who could weld it in for you. Certainly a cheaper option. Have done this to a BMW 320D before and solved the problem for a fraction of the price of a new part.

Thanks for your replies. Would you believe, in the end i had a big arguement with the dealer I bought the car from (only 6 months ago) and managed to get them to pay for a new one !!!!

So good outcome in the end.

If this ever happens again, I would certainly try the scrap option or mad-for-tar's idea, of getting someone to weld a new flexible coupleing on for me.

Thanks again,
