View Full Version : Why do some people hate driving on motorways?
I know a few people (mostly women to be honest!) who will avoid motorways if at all possible and some who have never and will never drive on the motorway? !
Is it a fear of driving fast or what is it?
My mother is one of those people i think to an extent, on the way back to town i will usually take the motorway as its quicker, and she will opt to take the other route which does not involve the motorway!
Some have a fear of speed but think they are are going fast enough and so stick in the middle lane.
If you pull out from the inside lane through to the oputside lane to overtake then come back to the inside lane, they some times take hint and pull over or stay there as a mobile road block :aargh4:

It is a general problem. I too know a few like that also. I used to think it was better that they were not on the motorway, now however I worry that they are simply not upto the task of driving

I think one of the main problems is that the motorway is the only place you dont go as a learner, and most dont do a pass plus or have some motorway instruction after the test is passed. They then venture onto the motorway without any propper instruction and get put off beacause they didnt really have the confidence in the irst place.

When it's all said and done if they're not confident driving on a motorway then it would be best for everyone if they take another route. There are enough accidents on the roads as it is :( I'm not sure how your police react over in the UK when it comes to fully licenced drivers driving well under the speed limit on whatever road it may be, but it drives me mad over here on our roads :aargh4:. The police do absolutely nothing (too much paperwork involved) I'd like to see what the statistics would say about the % of accidents which have somewhere in the process involved a slow driver causing others to get impatient and overtake or pass them. IMHO if they can't drive to the conditions or to the speed limit then they should hand in their licence, sell the car, and get off the road to make it safer for everyone else. :rant:off.
Back on topic - probably because they lack confidence when behind the wheel of a motor vehicle :( or if there's a toll to pay then they're too tight to part with the cash :D That's my 2 bobs worth anyway :p
