Hello,
Can any one point me in the right direction to the problem with my 2003 Golf?

I have had a leaking exhaust before the cat for about six months and about two months ago the MIL light and emissions workshop light came on, car drove fine and no change to mpg but exhaust blowing more,

Last week I had a new cat fitted at a cost of £386 because the original was all in one, to after the cat.

My mate plugged his vagcom in and we got fault codes 17596, 17598 and 17604 all to do with o2 sensor, we cleared faults but after a mile the MIL light came back.

I've only done about 6 miles since having the cat fitted, do you think I need to give it more time for things to settle down after having the blowing exhaust? or do these codes indicate a new Lambda sensor required? (£130) ouch!!

Will the MIL light go out on its own if it sorts itself out or does it require fault codes clearing?

BIG thanks for any advise!

it might be the air mass flow meter, had one changed on my v6 4motion, not cheap

If the light has come back on after clearing the faults, there is gonna a prob. Get your mate to check short term fuel trim, poss' fault with o2 sensors.
