Hi all,

This is my first post; Im looking to buy a used Mk4 golf tdi. So far I have found one but I have a couple of niggling questions.

It's a black 5dr GTTDI (51reg) with 76k miles on the clock. I've noticed that :

1. It hasnt had a sevice since 47K miles. The 60K mile box has been filled in but not stamped - therefore I'm taking as not being done. As it now has 76k on the clock, I assume that it needs a timing chain change? Can anyone else advise me of serious things that need doing?

2. The front brake discs have a slanting profile. They are badly work and I will have them changed if I buy it but the outer edge of the discs are more worn than the inner edges (where the centre of the wheel is). Is this normal or an indication of something "ontoward"?

3. Any advice on things to look for on these cars would be great.

Many thanks,
Some guy.

Cambelt STRAIGHT away mate, if that goes your talking £1500 to fix +. Get it done asap.

It's a sign the car has been subject to some heavy braking as they are warped. Signs of thrashing, abuse and heavy braking. Not good mate if I am honest.

3. Any advice on things to look for on these cars would be great.

Check the electrics all work, mirrors, windows, and the central locking is working correctly ( some mk4's have a C/L problem )

If I am honest, it sounds as if its not been cared for and ragged about, as well as the lack of service like. I'd prob just hold on to your cash mate and keep your eyes open for something else.

Many thanks,
Some guy.
