Hi everyone,

this is my 1st official post to the forum (hello everyone). I would like some help for my 2000 (w reg) golf 1.9 tdi 90bhp se please.

I have bought one of those diesel chip tuning things off a seller in Germany and the German instructions provided with it are worse then useless to me.

I am a complete car novice and cant change a bulb but i would like to try and fit this chip myself. The chip has a 10 pin male connector on one side and a 10 pin female connector on the other side with a little box coming out of the wiring harness.

Does anybody know where to fit this on my golf? Any detailed suggestions would be very much appreciated as i am a complete novice. Or maybe a little diagram onto where to fit it? anything would be helpful.

Also i opened the bonnet and there is a engine shield on it, would i need to remove this and if so how would i do it?

Im sorry if this question seems annoying but any help would be appreciated.

Thankyou in advance :beerchug:

P.s. i have attached a picture of the chip in case it helps

Hi
Not sure that I'd recomend one of the cheaper chips of fleabay.
There's been alot of bad reports about them, there's some chat about them within these forum's, no one seems to have a good word for them.
So Be Warned... Read post's by 'chip-n-spin' this chap is a pro, we spoke to him at great length the other day and he know what he's talking about.....
In answer to your question the engine cover does have to come off, and the said chip fits directly to the injector pump.....

i fitted one of these on my mk3....i cant help you with fitting yours as your engine is different to mine, although i do remember having to remove the engine cover. I didnt use the instructions, as I rememeber it being quite straight forward.

I wouldn't recommend one of these boxes...it did make my car quicker, but ended up tripping lights on my dash, so my glow plug light would keep flashing and staying on now and then. Quite irritating. I removed it after a day as the engine would cut out randomely despite changing the settings on it to a lower setting. Everything was fine once the box was removed.

I then got my car chipped which was alot better, but more expensive ofcourse.

hi all thankyou for all your advice. Hmmm im getting worried now though. has anyone had any damage done because of these things. I am still curious to give it a go though as i have heard some good things about them. However i think this will be a temporary thing until i can save up enough to get my car professionally done.

So to take off the engine cover do i just give it a pull and it comes off? or are there some screws that need to be taken off?

hi mate, well if its like the cover on tdi's,like mine, yes you do have to remove it,there should be three bolts under small covers on the engine cover, loosen these & the cover should just lift off,& as for the tuning chip from ebay, dont go there!!!!:beerchug:

Look if you really care about your car, having a "black box" as such which fools the ecu into pumping more fuel into the engine is not the way to make the car last, or keep it in good condition.

I know your anxious to try it, and yes it will probably give the car a bit more of a kick but it simply is not good for the car. You need to up your boost pressure etc, to properly make use of the extra fuel for better combustion, otherwise you'll end up with a whole lot of crud in your engine.

Sell the box, sell your mobile, sell your trainers, and get it chipped..it costs 260 pounds and it will NOT damage your car.

No company is going to want to chip your car if it is in bad condition because they'll be worried that when it does break down, you'll blame them for chipping it incorrectly..
