Before I bought my A4 IN JUNE 2008 I test drove a BMW 320 SE. Apart from the fact that I didn't like the ride, space, gearbox etc I particularly didn't like the inside that I thought looked cheap. I think I put a post up saying "Engine made by BMW, interior made by Woolworths".

Since then I have quipped to a few friends that the reason that you can't (or couldn't, I don't know if you can now) go onto the BMW website and get a video showing the inside, is that BMW doesn't want you seeing how cheap it looks before you get to the dealers and salesmen!

Anyway, I see it still looks as cheap as a Woolworths Christmas toy. In today's Daily Telegraph the reviewer is almost creaming himself talking about the 330d. There is a photograph of the interior at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/carreviews/5017713/BMW-330d-review.html

Have a look, then have a look at the interior of your A4 (B8). Would you swap? It may seem a small point but apart the fact that the BMW, costing about £33,000 still has a traditional handbrake (the individual item that I think is the best on the A4 is the Hill Hold Assist - since I live in Yorkshire I really appreciate it) but, more than that, have a look AT the handbrake in the BMW. It just has a plastic knob. This may seem a small point but it is one thing that I look for in a car to see how well (what level of finishing) it is presented. The BMW inside just looks CHEAP.

Anyway, rant over. Time to walk the dog.

Makes my VW look like old video cassette plastic :D
I guess it is all relative as my VW is 7 years old.

I drive a 07 530d at work, it goes and handles well but after 130k its knackered and the interior rattles like a good un. It uses a litre of oil per 1200miles, BMW say a litre per 1000 is acceptable, glad im not paying for it. BMW have spent so much on warranty work it would have been cheaper to give us a new car. But it does have some sort of hill start assist :biglaugh:

My VW uses about a litre/1500 miles. VW say it is acceptable.

For that engine and the handling and feedback of the 3 series I would put up with an interior which is not up to Audi standards. I suppose it depends on what your priorities are?

I think comparing it to a A4 B8 is not a fair car to compare it to.... As the 3 Series in its current form ^^ has been around since 2005, it would be best comparing it to a A4 B7...

There has been a "face lift" (IE BMW put some LED's on the rear lol) since.

To be honest I do like BMW's but this new 3-Series shape is discussing... Even the Ford Mondeo looks better.
