View Full Version : I need to have a moan

I took my car into the dealership for the following work:-
- Rattle on roof console
- Driver door trim rattle
- Creaking black door pillar panel OSR door
Picked it up after 3 days and......
- Rattle on roof console sounded worse
- The replacement door pillar panel had a scratch on it
But at least they fixed the drivers door (new door card in the end).
I am just a bit mad at the moment as I will have to rebook the car in again for more corrective work. Something I am in two minds about.
Since it's easter weekend, I am going to see if I can dismantle the roof console and address the issue myself. If anyone has done this, I would be grateful for any advice.
In addition, can anyone advise if the scratch can be buffed out on the pillar. The finish looks like plastic so I don't know if it is possible. To fit another pillar will mean a full door strip again and I am worried that something else will get damaged on the way.
After 2 months ownership, it's been in the garage for 6 days in total.
Such a shame since it's a great car but seriously the build quality issue needs some addressing.

I'd be careful about doing too many things in case they blame you....
Good luck though :)

Rule 1. Never take your car into the dealers unless it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. I had one or two issues on my old MK5 such as the ingress of water into the base of the windscreen, appearing as a milky film during winter months between the lamination.
I never had the scrren replaced and never needed to. I did not want a new screen fitted with the risks of damage to surrounding paintwork.
Another, was a rattle beneath that centre windscreen storage recess, which I sorted out myself.
If any faults become too insufferable then I'll sell the car and buy something cheaper where I'll have less expectations as to quality and reliability.

Sadly your expereince is the reason why half of us don't bother with the dealers - whilst its a pain in the butt to take the car back again, that scuff is only going to annoy you - get them to replace it again, and rerplace all the clips with new ones on the rebuild to prevent further rattles and buzzes.
Roof console i'd investigate myself tbh.

I gotta admit I'm a bit like you HHGTTG.....once I identify or manage to sort out a minor annoyance ....I'm happy enough to carry on without Dealer assistance.
Looking forward to my Shake Rattle & Hum....lol....I suppose it helps when we're a wee bit mutt & Jeff.

We have a motor vehicle body and paint section at the College and I noticed a scuff mark on the paintwork the other day. The f**king students play football on the car park and they are crap. I asked the paint guys what they use you remove scuffs and scratches and they gave me some G3 Rubbing Compound (http://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=180). I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I think it should work.
As regards taking it back to the dealer it would actually depend on the seriousness of the fault. If you feel confident trying to cure these faults then have a go. ;)

I have successfully treated various scratches on plastic products using something we always have at home and that is Brasso metal polish. However it does take some perseverance and time.
I don't know whether those shiny black pillars are painted or black plastic, through and through - the latter, I would suspect.

Yes Brasso is T-Cut only a different name. ;)
