With my head ligths dipped I notice that my right fog light comes on when I indicate right and my left one comes on when I indicate left. Is this a design feature or a wiring fault. Thought it was a fault but noticed the same phenomena on a mercedes on the way to work this morning.

No, its supposed to do that apparently...I`ll be looking to turn it off when I get my VAG COM cable, I think it looks daft.

Thanks for that, does seem rather pointless to me.

This must be the third post this year on the same subject.

It amuses me that people buy cars without knowing what features they are getting, the delaerships handover obviously is very poor explaining the features, and owners don't read the bloomin' manual.

I think they are useless personally, and if anything are a hazard as they confuse the hell out of other road users, especially on roundabouts.

Yeah, they werent explained to me on collection, though I already knew about them and had even asked for them to be turned off...was told that they would speak to VW and would only do it if they `approved the change`.

I even gave them all the details about what to change. Never heard anything though.

I was about to say...

I saw this on a brand new Marc the other day and was thinking that car is a bit too new to have faults

I agree. I have two friends who bought cars a few months ago. Both the cars came with two different power levels, 140 & 180 or 140 & 190. Neither knew which they had bought. I just couldn't understand how.

I too am surprised at the naievety of some of the forum posters I've come acroos with regard to their cars.
I know that prior to buying my car, I asked quite a few questions about the MK6 but that was because I wanted to be prepared for the car I was getting and of course it is not generally possible to read a manual until you have the car to hand.
However, once I had the car I read the manual thoroughly several times and found that it explained, sometimes in a rather convoluted manner, how things worked.
Perhaps it is an age thing?

It sounds like another load of s**t they have added. I've checked that the fog lamps operate but I didn't have the indicator switched on at the time. It probably is talked about in the handbook if you care to search.

Where are you getting your cable from danski and don't say Ross-Tech? I search eBay every couple of days to see if anyone is selling a USB to K-Can cable but nothing shows up.

Ross-Tech talk about all kinds of cables, KEY COM, KEY/KII USB, Hex-COM+CAN, Micro-CAN, Hex-USB+CAN and their prices aren't cheap. So which one have you ordered? ;)

For some people, the exact power output doesn't matter. They test drive it, and if it feels powerful enough, they buy it. Not everyone has an interest in cars other than getting from A->B.

or some just pick it off a list as their company car - not everyone is that into cars; to some its just a tool to get from A-B and their only prioirty might be 'how much a month' and 'does it have air con ' !

Pehaps they should be coerced into buying their own cars, then?
Lets' put an end to the Company car perks or whatever the equivalents are nowadays.

There is nothing like having to spend you own hard earned cash to concentrate the mind and pay a bit more attention to what you're purchasing.

But why?

Why should someone with no interest in cars be forced into paying more attention?

It seems obvious to me that if you are spending a lot of money on something, such as a car, then it would be advisable to learn a bit about it so as to benefit from the facilities it offers.

If you have no interest in cars, then buy something very basic and that will not tax the brain cells too much. Anyway I don't suppose my comments really apply to the majority of forum members here, as they as obviously enthusiasts and I would have thought would make some effort to acquaint themselves with their motors.

I totally agree, buying a car such as the ones we all drive on this forum is a big big purchase and commitment. My wife finds it commical the time I spend researching my new car purchase, and the amount of time I spend asking every question I can of the dealer, not to mention push every button, pull every lever etc etc just to be totally sure about every detail. I hate the thought of those minor niggles developing into major annoyances 5 or 6 months down the line, not to mention 2 or 3 years along the road. However, some other car manufacturers do produce a range of cars for those motorists with 10-15k burning a hole in their pocket who have no interest in what they are driving, nor do they care how awful the car is. I guess there is a market for all tastes...

Also, in relation to the original post, I wish I had a pound for every person that tells me I have a fog light out because of the fogs coming on when I turn a corner or indicate.... Very annoying.

They do a halogen fog lamp with static cornering light at £61, yet the standard fog lamp is dearer at £81. They do cornering headlamps at £427 thats about the same price for the Xenon, the standard halogen lights are £168. ;)

hi Keith,

I jumped on the group buy on Briskoda that Gadgetman has kindly arranged, too late to join now though, they were ordered a couple of days ago, I think we only saved about £20 in the end, as there was a mix up with the VAT.
Hopefully will have mine in a week or so.
